Another VPN Vulnerability. Is It Time to Rethink Remote Access?

If you’ve ever worked from home and opened a program like Cisco AnyConnect, FortiClient, SonicWall NetExtender, or another VPN application before accessing files or software at the office, you’ve likely used a Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network (SSL VPN). For years, this has been the standard way for employees to securely connect to their company’s network from outside the office.

The challenge is that traditional SSL VPNs have also become a frequent target for cybercriminals, with new vulnerabilities continuing to appear across multiple vendors and requiring organizations to stay current with security updates and patches.

This doesn’t mean every VPN is a problem. Site-to-site VPNs that securely connect office locations remain an important part of many business networks, but older SSL VPN technology designed for remote users is worth reviewing as newer approaches can reduce risk while making it easier for employees to work securely from almost anywhere.
